Test Results

Cell phone radiation test results. These images show the radiation coming from a phone towards the caller's head.
Red indicates high levels,
Blue indicates lower levels.

The image on the left is a 3-D radiation intensity diagram of a popular phone model without Phone/Shield. The two images on the right are the radiation scans (frontal view) of the same phone without (before) and with (after) Phone/Shield. Notice the red radiation areas that are located around the ear piece and base of the antenna and how this radiation is reduced once Phone/Shield is in place.

The manufacturer has conducted extensive testing and research on Phone/Shield and its effects on cell phones. As discussed in the standards section, most studies to date have focused on the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). But SAR is difficult to measure, usually being determined using human models and or computer approximations, so our initial In-House Testing focused on measurements of electromagnetic power density, which can be determined directly with a field probe and meter (Power density is simply the power level of the radiation over a given area, typically measured in milli-watts per square centimeter…mW/cm²). Also, we closely examined how radiation levels vary across the surface of the phone and the antenna. The results were extremely dramatic as you can see from these before and after test results. To corroborate these results, APREL Laboratories, specialists in cellular phone SAR Testing was commissioned, to investigate Phone/Shield’s effects in terms of SAR levels.

Several phones had radiation up to 10 mW/cm².
Our radiation maps of the phone indicate that high levels of radiation are emitted at the ear piece region of the phone.
In some phones, operating the phone with the antenna down (retracted) dramatically increased the level of radiation into the head through the earpiece.
By placing the Phone/Shield on the cell phone, the radiation levels were dramatically reduced. The actual amount of reduction varies from phone to phone and how the phone is used (i.e. antenna up or down). But to give you an idea of the reduction, in testing a popular phone model with the antenna up, the peak radiation was reduced by 96.7% and overall radiation levels for the front of the phone were reduced by 80.7%. Actual radiation reduction varies from phone to phone and in how the phone is used. A good rule of thumb is that Phone/Shield reduces the radiation from the earpiece by about half - the key is that Phone/Shield is dramatically reducing the radiation that is directed at the caller's head.
